Devon & Cornwall’s

Building a Legacy: Exeter’s Permanent Hindu Temple & Cultural Hub

For decades, Hindu families throughout Devon and Cornwall have gathered in rented halls and makeshift spaces to practice their faith. Now, we stand at a historic turning point.

The Exeter Hindu Cultural Centre (EHCC) is officially on a mission to establish a permanent temple and cultural hub in Exeter. This landmark project will provide a dedicated sanctuary for prayer, a vibrant centre for learning, and a home for service—preserving our rich heritage for generations to come.

This will be a place of prayer, learning, culture and service for present and future generations.

The Time is Now: A Rare Opportunity

We are at a critical crossroads. A suitable building has become available in Exeter—a rare occurrence in a city where such properties are incredibly scarce. Because opportunities like this almost never reach the open market, the bidding process is intense and highly competitive. We must act decisively and move quickly to ensure this chance doesn't slip away.

Urgent Appeal: Our Moment is Now

We have reached a defining moment for the Hindu community in Devon and Cornwall. A rare and suitable building has become available in Exeter, but the window to secure it is closing fast.
The Challenge
Properties like this are incredibly scarce, and the bidding process is highly competitive. To submit a serious, winning offer, we must demonstrate our financial strength immediately.
  • The Deadline: Saturday, 28th February (Final day for offers).
  • The Target: We need to source £350,000 ASAP.
  • Current Status: We have £150,000 ready to go.
The Plan
While we are actively exploring bank loans and mortgages to cover the full purchase and future renovations, we need to bridge the gap now to make our bid viable. Your response over the next 48 hours will determine exactly where we stand and how aggressively we can pursue this home.
We aren't just buying a building; we are securing our spiritual and cultural future.
Every pledge and donation counts toward showing the strength of our backing.

How You Can Help

Every contribution brings us one step closer to our goal. While larger gifts significantly accelerate our progress, every donation—no matter the size—is a vital act of Seva that builds our collective future.
Flexible Ways to Give
  • Instalments: To make giving easier, pledges can be spread over 6 months via standing order.
  • Structured Gifts: If you wish to discuss a larger legacy gift or a specific donation structure, our trustees are available for a confidential conversation.
  • Interest-Free Loans: We are also welcoming interest-free loan support to help us secure the building during this competitive bidding phase.

For higher-rate taxpayers, the benefits are even greater, as you can claim additional personal tax relief through your self-assessment tax return.

Financial Integrity & Donor Protection

We treat your generosity with the utmost respect. To ensure complete transparency and accountability, the Exeter Hindu Cultural Centre (EHCC) maintains strictly segregated financial accounts.

Our Ring-Fenced Funds
Your contributions are allocated into three distinct categories to ensure they are used exactly as intended:
  • Building Fund (Restricted): Dedicated exclusively to property acquisition, deposits, and transaction costs. These funds are legally protected for this purpose.
  • Charity & Outreach Fund: Supports our vital community work, including homeless outreach, food support, and assistance for children in need.
  • General Fund: Covers the day-to-day operations and cultural activities of the centre.
Our "Peace of Mind" Promise
We understand that property transactions can be complex. If, for any reason, the current building purchase does not proceed, we offer a Donor Protection Guarantee. Every donor will be contacted and given the following options:
  1. A Full Refund: Your contribution returned to you in full.
  2. Strategic Carry-Forward: Retaining your gift in the Restricted Building Fund for the next available property opportunity.
  3. Community Reallocation: Redirecting your gift to the General Fund to support the EHCC’s ongoing mission.

Donor Recognition:

Every gift is a brick in the sanctuary we are building together. To celebrate your Seva, we will create a dedicated space of acknowledgement within the temple. This will serve as a permanent expression of thanks, ensuring that the names of those who stepped forward in this historic moment are remembered and honoured for years to come.

A Shared Legacy

This is more than a building; it is a historic turning point for our community. By contributing, you are helping to establish the first-ever permanent Hindu temple and cultural sanctuary in Devon and Cornwall. Your generosity will secure a spiritual home for thousands of families and anchor our sacred heritage in this land—creating an unbroken legacy that will inspire and serve our children’s children for centuries to come.

How to donate

Every penny counts toward our new home. To help us avoid third-party transaction fees, many of our supporters prefer to donate via direct bank transfer. If you choose this method, please use your name as the reference so we can personally thank you via email for your generosity.
